Christmas at Callanwolde is a 40 year tradition in Atlanta. Callanwolde was built by the eldest son of Asa Candler, founder of Coca-Cola. This is the breakfast room where Charles, his wife, and three children would have eaten most of their meals.
Respecting the original architecture and history of the home, while giving a nod to the mission of the organization were important factors in the design direction. Mixing contemporary and traditional pieces gives the room a feel well-rounded. The backs of the dining chairs were the perfect compliment to the interior detailing and molding around the room. The contemporary resin painting was chosen specifically to bring the home into the present and create a little shine in the room amidst the dull finishes. Instead of ornaments, small, hand painted canvases serve as decorations for the tree to bring in the fine art component of Callanwolde’s mission. Fresh flowers and fruit were used throughout the space and terrariums were hung from the chandelier to add a touch of Christmas whimsy.
